In this course, you will learn about facilitating learning and supporting learners in online learning environment.

 

Course overview

 

The course covers eight key sections: 1) online learning communities, 2) synchronous and asynchronous interaction, 3) eTutor’s role, task and skills, 4) self-directed learning, 5) possible problems and conflicts, 6) different types of learners, 7) communication tools and 8) assessment.

 

Objectives

Objective: understand the need for online learning communities / environments

Objective 1: Create and tutor virtual/online and collaborative learning community

Objective 2: Identify e-tutor’s role, tasks and skills

Objective 3: Initiate and support self-directed online learning

Object 4: Use diverse communication technologies to support learners

 

The workload

You will need to spend 20 hours to complete this course: 10 hours for navigating through the course content and different quizzes and 10 hours of practice with peers in the forum discussion.

Welcome to Continuous Professional Development Diploma in Effective School Leadership!

This module gives an overview of the concepts school leadership and management. It also introduces gender and inclusive education as crosscutting topics for this programme.  We also introduce the professional standard of working with parents and the local community in school leadership.  

Learning outcomes

By the end of this module, participants should be able to:

  • Demonstrate an understanding of the concepts of school leadership and management;
  • Explain strengths and weaknesses of school leadership models;
  • Describe school leadership practices and their implication on the teaching and learning process for improving students’ achievements;
  • Explain principles of parent-community-school partnerships;
  • Demonstrate an understanding of inclusiveness and gender in education;
  • Explain how involving parents and local communities can contribute to inclusive education;
  • Describe and critically engage with different leadership models;
  • Establish strategies to enhance collaboration between the school, parents and the local community as an instrument for improving the quality of teaching and learning;
  • Act as role model in the community;
  • Demonstrate equity and inclusiveness in school leadership;
  • Show empathy in executing leadership roles;
  • Value the importance of adopting various leadership styles according to the context;
  • Recognize importance of equity in school leadership;
  • Appreciate the importance of involving parents and the local community in the school.

Welcome to DLOL1-Digital Literacy for Online Learning!

This course was created for you to develop your competences for success in online learning. The course covers basic ICT literacy, communication in an online learning environment and finding and evaluating the credibility of online resources. In this course, you will engage with the course content presented at different online pages, learning activities as well as interactive quizzes. You will also be able to discuss the content and any other aspect of the learning with your peers in the course forum. More specifically, you will learn:

  • how to use learning technologies confidently and critically to achieve your study or continuing professional development
  • how to identify areas of study strengths in preparation for becoming an online learner
  • how to explore and reflect on skills that are valuable for online study
  • opportunities to further develop your skills as an online learner
  •  the attributes of a successful online learner

The estimate time needed to complete this course is 40 hours. You can learn the course in a self-paced learning mode. You may learn it at your own convenient time and pace. You may also start and end this course anytime. However, we recommend you to spend four hours or more each week on this course. This will help you keep your motivation in the course and appreciate the relationship between different components of the course.
