EDP1101R: Introduction to educational psychology.

Social Psychology is the field of Psychology concerned with how social influences affect our thoughts, beliefs, feelings and behaviors. *It tries to see how the thoughts, feelings and behaviors of individuals are influenced by the actual, imagined, or implied presence of other(s) (Allport). This include social perception, social interaction, and the many kinds of social influences ( like trust, power, and persuasion). *It tries to understand the influence that individual perceptions and behaviors have upon the behavior of groups. This includes looking at things like productivity in the workplace and group decision making. *It tries to understand groups themselves as behavioral entities, and the relationships and influences that one group has upon another group (Michener). The way we perceive ourselves in relation to the rest of the world plays an important role in our choices, behaviors and beliefs. Conversely, the opinions of others also impact our behavior and the way we view ourselves. Therefore, we can better understand how groups impact our choices and actions and to gain a greater appreciation for how our social perceptions affect our interactions with other people. Studying social psychology can enrich our understanding of ourselves and of the world around us.Particularly, the study of Social Psychology helps teachers to deal with various social influences that take place in their dairy work as it is carried out in an ever changing social context (parents, students, colleagues, community, etc.)
