This module integrates economic theory, country-level data, hands-on computer work, and real-world applications to the Rwandan economy. Students will be introduced to the micro, macro and trade theories that underlie typical CGE models and will also become familiar with SAMs, the statistical backbone of CGE models. As part of the module, students will learn how the parameters of a CGE model are estimated from a SAM. Finally, through this module, students will be exposed to relevant policy issues and areas that benefit from the use of these models. Examples of modeling applications include analysis of trade and public finance in Rwanda under alternative macro closures (I-S, public budget, balance-of-payments)and factor market closures, productivity and world price shocks, capital in-and outflows, etc. on Rwanda’s economic structure and income distribution
This course aims to provide an advanced knowledge in the theory and practice of econometrics for economists. A distinctive feature of this course is its integration of the theoretical developments and practical data analysis. Economic examples are consistently used throughout the course to motivate and illustrate the subject matter. Extensive applied work using computer software is an important aspect of the course.
This second part of Advanced Microeconomics intends to equip students with advanced theories of Consumer and Producer behaviors, by exploring agents' choices in an environment of uncertainty and asymmetric information; and how the interdependence of markets and the strategic actions of economic partners can change outcomes of the economic transactions. Also, the module aims at justifying public interventions in order to restore free market conditions.
This course will equip students with skills necessary to promote and protect natural resources.
The module addresses some fundamental questions in industrial organization: Why are some economic activities organized within the firm and other outside? How do firms interact in the marketplace? How do governments react to strategic behavior and how do they regulate industries?
