Course image ACI4112 Cultural Institutions and Policies
Trimester 2

This module deals with four major concepts: culture, cultural heritage, cultural institutions and cultural policy. It examines problems of culture and heritage management at different levels: legislations, community involvement, financing and partnership. The Module is divided into four components: (1) Museums and Arts Centers; (2) Library and Archives; (3) Cultural Enterprises and Associations and (4) Cultural Tourism.  The Module examines status and future trends and challenges within the Rwandan context. We will discuss questions related to policy, legislation and partnership in these fields. The teaching method combines face-to-face sessions, core reading, audio-visual materials, online discussions and small group discussion. Each student is required to attend all classroom sessions and pass all module’s assignments.

This is a 20-credit module equivalent to 200 hours. It is taught in Year III and divided into three main units: Practical Aspects of the Translator/Interpreter’s Profession; Film subtitling and Translation; Cultural Entrepreneurship.

Trimester 2

This is a 20-credit module of 200 contact hours (CH) done in Year 3. It deals with translating texts of specialised nature i.e. texts on AIDS/VIH, climate change, greenhouse effect, medicine, science and technology, economics, law, taxation and fiscal policies, etc. The module is divided into separate language combinations that include: (1) Kinyarwanda/English - English/Kinyarwanda (2) Kinyarwanda/French - French/Kinyarwanda, (3) French/English - English/French (4) English/Kiswahili - Kiswahili/English.
