Students enrolling for this course and have no prior understanding or knowledge of art and design, are introduced to the art environment through learning of vocabulary, terminology, principles and process of art and design. This course is the backbone of the programme since all courses taught build upon the basic of art and design and therefore must be taken by everyone who enrolls for this programme.

The course focuses on the concerns of human usability in relation to the design of systems, products, and services to make them easier, safer, and more effective for human use.

It puts much emphasis on the principles and concepts, and profile examples of applications, to introduce students to the range of ways in which people can interact with computational systems and artifacts, and provides concepts, tools and techniques for their user-centered design and evaluation.

The course aims on students understanding Interior Design as the
creation of the spaces in which we live and involves the design of the
interface between buildings and the people who use them – particularly in
offices and public facilities.

This studio-based course and its projects introduce the advanced
knowledge and skills in interior design (lighting specifications) and a focus
on non-Western architecture and design history, styles and decorative
arts (cultural design concepts, furniture motifs, color applications and
vocabulary). Furthermore, students are challenged to define and organize
spatial configurations - considering circulation and planning strategies for a
given building programs within a given site.

In this first part of the interior Design course, projects are assigned with
emphasis on the development and presentation of public and office design

Students will apply skills in producing presentation material - to
communicate design proposals and develop their portfolio.

Integration and use of different materials in Design informed by the assessment of durability, resource conservation, environmental impact, cultural appropriateness, basic functionality, and positive impact on the way in which solutions are realised.  This course will provide an introduction to various materials that can be used in product, fashion and interior design including discussion of fundamental principles of the structural, physical and long-term characteristics of each material and how these attributes play into determining of appropriate use of each.

In this course students will be introduced to Management Principles, functions of management in relation to design practice, management process in design practice and Management Techniques.Students should be able to demonstrate knowledge and understanding of:

The main managerial issues associated with key business functional areas of managing people and organization within the creative arts field; finance; marketing; operations management; change and project management

This aims and objectives of this course is to equip students with the theory and practices associated with creative thinking and innovative in individuals and organizations. The course focuses on how and why some innovations are successfully commercialized, with particular emphasis on design-driven innovation. It also explores how to generate creative ideas using mindsets, tools and practices exhi**d by successful innovators. Students will have opportunities for practice, experimentation and feedback. 



This course allows student to address a variety of ideas or issues through a wide variety of media (wood, metal, plaster, stone, fabric, light, glass, fabrics, welding) although work will reside within the sculptural principles of form, movement and spatial awareness. Students will be encouraged to initiate off-site exhibitions. Students should regularly undertake projects within the vast array of outdoor sites around the Rwanda area.
