This course intends to provide the students with understanding of the importance of water supply systems in society and with a good understanding of water demand estimation, design of water supply system including storage capacity and appurtenances of water network.

Constructions are built in different materials such as Concrete, Reinforced concrete, Timber, Steel, Stones, Bricks etc. "CIV2161: CONSTRUCTION MATERIALS" was designed to allow students to have an understanding and knowledge on properties of building materials, different types of building materials used in construction, their manufacturing and utilization.

Having successfully completed the module, students should be able to demonstrate knowledge and understanding of:

- composition and engineering behaviour of various civil engineering materials,

- types and Manufacturing Process,

- applications (uses),

- provide the knowledge in engineering properties and uses of various civil engineering materials,...

- undertake self learning in the selection of building materials,

- prepare and produce Reports.

Estimating and costing is the technique of computing different quantities so as to determine the expected costs to be incurred on a particular project.

"CIV 3161 Elements of quantity surveying" was designed to give to students key knowledge on the measurement of quantities of materials and works, preparation of abstract estimates, analysis of rates, valuation and earth work calculations.

At the end of this module, students are able to analyse various documents and drawings (Floor plans, sections, elevations, ... ) of civil constructions, undestand their components and prepare their cost estimates.

As drawings are prepared using modern age technology, this module offers an interesting opportunity to students to apply their skills in CAD design while analysing all soft materials provided for a particular project.

Irrigation & Drainage Engineering: This section aims at introducing students to irrigation & drainage engineering. Students will be taken through Soil Water Characteristics, Irrigation Water Requirements, Irrigation Water Application Methods, irrigation scheduling,  Design of simple irrigation systems, Salinity problems in irrigation; Drainage of Agricultural Lands, Land drainage methods, Design of drainage and groundwater control systems; Maintenance of Irrigation and Drainage Systems

 

Water and Wastewater Treatment: This section aims at introducing students to advanced Water and Wastewater Treatment Methods. Students will alsobe taken through steps in the design of a sewerage system as well as Sewage Pumps and Pumping Stations.
