This module offers an examination and analysis of the role/s and dynamics of global environmental politics of the state, international institutions, and civil society actors, as well as the normative underpinnings of actual and potential policies for global environmental politics and governance.
Issues to be studied include definitions of key concepts in environmental related sub-fields; political dimension of environmental protection and management; major drivers of environmental change around the World; major environmental problems at international, regional and national levels; discussion on the concept of "sustainable development" or "sustainability"; characteristics and types of environmental conflicts; links between environment and security; key issues related to environmental policy, law and planning; major stakeholders and their actions in environmental politics and governance; global and national instruments in environmental politics and governance; environmental politics and governance in Rwanda.
As case study, the module will analyze the overview as well as key issues in environmental politics and governance in Rwanda.
