Trimester 2

This module aims to provide students with knowledge and skills concerning basic natural and anthropogenic hazards that leads to disasters. It equips students with knowledge on possible disaster management or monitoring approaches.  The course will help them; to understand the concepts of hazard assessment, elements at disaster risk mapping, and vulnerability assessment; to formulate the spatial data requirements for disasters; to apply various methods for vulnerability assessment; to understand the requirements for relief /response / recovery / reconstruction initiatives or operations.

On successful completion of the module, the student will be expected to be able :
  • Describe natural and anthropogenic hazards, their origins, triggering factors, and characteristics;
  • Illustrate the types of Natural hazard and how they affect human settlements;
  • Conduct Vulnerability and risk assessment
