  • Devices must be provided to switch on or off generators, transmission lines, distributors and other equipment under both normal and abnormal conditions
  • This is achieved by an apparatus called switchgear essentially consists of switching and protecting devices such as switches, fuse, circuit breakers, relays, etc
Course image ETE4262 Mobile Applications
Semester II

This module covers the application development life cycle for mobile apps. The module initially provides an overview of mobile platforms and then looks at the application development methodology used for mobile apps, taking into consideration the limitations of the mobile device platform and the opportunities provided through GPS, orientation sensors and networking. During the development process, interaction design considerations are considered with regard to the interface technologies provided by modern mobile devices. This will incorporate different implementation features that can be applied to mobile device applications, and the different platforms and development environments available. The growing mobile application marketplace and its impact on mobile application development is explored.

Course image EPE4261 Renewable Energy Sources
Semester II

Any physical activity in this world, whether carried out by human beings or by nature, is dependent on the flow of energy in one form or the other. The word ‘energy’ itself is derived from the Greek:  word ‘en-ergon’, which means ‘in-work’ or ‘work content’. The work output depends on the energy input. In addition , eenergy is one of the major inputs for the economic development of any country. It is in this regards, the students are taught how clean and inexhaustible energy resources can be converted to electricity, aiming at increasing electricity generation capacity to meet energy demand.

The module will cover the following chapters

Chap. 1: Solar Energy

Chap.2: Wind Energy

Chap.3: Geothermal Energy

Chap. 4: Biomass Energy

On successful completion of this course, student should be able to:

  • Understand the basic properties of different renewable energy sources and technologies for their utilization,
  • Undertake simple analysis of energy potential of renewable sources of energy,
  • Interpret advantages and disadvantages of different renewable sources of energy
  • Select engineering approach to problem solving when implementing the projects on renewable sources
  • Describe main technical systems designed for utilization of renewable sources of energy

•The fundamental purpose of this course is to introduce and explore a number of engineering and economic matters involved in planning, operating, and controlling power generation and transmission systems.

•The topics will be served as an effective means to introduce students to advanced mathematical and operations research methods applied to practical electric power engineering problems.

•Acquaint the students how to economically operate a power system and control it.
•Introduce methods for solving complicated problems involving both economic analysis and network analysis and illustrate these techniques with relatively simple problems
•Introduce the methods that are used in modern control systems for power generations—AGC, etc.
