Semester II

Welcome to this!

This course aims to discuss the Module of geology and its application to engineering study for the purpose of assuring that the geological factors regarding the location, design, construction, operation, and maintenance of engineering works are recognized and accounted for. Also, it deals with issues in geosciences related to rock mass and geomaterials characterization, such as applied to highways/railways, bridges, high depths, and tunnel design, rock breakage, and rock drilling. All the said features will be discussed under 11 topics:

  • Topic 1: Introduction
  • Topic 2: Mineralogy
  • Topic 3: Petrology
  • Topic 4: Physical Geology
  • Topic 5: Structural Geology
  • Topic 6: Geological Mapping
  • Topic 7: Rock Permeability and Seepage
  • Topic 8: Strength of rock mass
  • Topic 9: Geology for engineering projects
  • Topic 10: Geohazards
  • Topic 11: Geological fieldworks

Semester II

This course is designed to acquaint the learners with basic concepts in surveying measurements, particularly the angle and linear measurement techniques and instrumentation.

By the end of the module, the learners should be able to :

  • Describe the functions of various parts of theodolite.
  • Carry out angular measurement using  theodolite.
  • Differentiate between horizontal and vertical angles
  • Compute and reduce angles and bearings
  • Conduct trigonometric heighting
  • Appreciate instrument calibration and take care of the instruments
  • Develop their communication skills leadership and cooperative attitudes due during group practices
