Carbon mitigation through the regrowth and protection of largely natural forests has the potential for the greatest environmental benefits in terms of ecosystem services and biodiversity protection, while still providing significant long-term storage(Courard-Hauri, Chancellor, Rundus, & Boland, 2016).  Among the recent efforts towards enhancing, the government of Rwanda has embarked on a vigorous afforestation program, aiming to achieve 30% forest cover by 2020(Official et al., 2014).
