Welcome to the course

This module deals with human body structure, function and their relationship. It is designed to enable students to gain an understanding of normal body structure and functioning of different organ systems of human body. Therefore it will become the basis for further study in the nursing profession and will help students to develop critical thinking for effective analysis and management of health related conditions.

Throughout this module, brief description of the anatomy of each important organ is given under the headings of various systems. Essential aspects of Anatomy and physiology are discussed simply, yet with accuracy and precision. Again, the illustrations complement the text material and foster comprehension on the part of the student. Each chapter is organized from the simple to the more complex, with the anatomy followed by the physiology which deals with the healthy functions of different organs and the change that the whole body undergoes in the module of its activities. Within the chapter, objectives to meet are set and the content availed. Clinical contexts are used through the module in all the areas to make the students aware of the importance of anatomy and physiology in their future nursing practice.

Mention that without the understanding of the functioning of the human, no link can be done with the pathologies and their care and support by the nurse and midwife. Therefore the purpose of this module is to describe the normal structure and function of human body organs and system then gained knowledge will be the basis for understanding different pathologies and the direction and outcome of patient care within the framework of Nursing /Midwifery.
