Course image SNE1343: Neurology and its relevance to Special Needs Education
Trimester 3

The Module aims at helping students to understand the structures of the nervous system and how it influences behavior, learning and development of individuals. Students will be able to understand the difference between the main functions of the central and peripheral nervous system and the different stages of perception formation. Students will also develop strategies to deal with the identified learning needs attributed to neurological dysfunction and analyse the role of environment in neurological dysfunction. Furthermore, students will understand that dealing with neurological dysfunction requires concerted efforts, involving the flexibility of teachers, other professionals and parents. Students will be able to suggest alternative teaching and assessment practices for learners with neurological dysfunction. to skills related to the nervous system, their dysfunctions and how to teach learners with neurological dysfunction-related learning needs.
