Introduction

Welcome to this e learning platform for the module Veterinary Parasitology. This is a course taught to third year Veterinary students in order to understand the different parasites that affect the animals

Aim

This module will encompass three main components: Entomology, helminthology and protozoology.  This module equips the learners with sufficient knowledge about the parasites of veterinary importance and their vectors. It enables the student to understand the epidemiology, diagnosis and control of parasitic diseases of animals.

Learning outcome

At the end of this course you will be able to:

Discuss the biology, distribution, classification of parasites and explain the difference between them;

Identify different types of common parasites (mature & immature stages) affecting the animals;

Describe the different life cycle patterns and explain the transmission modes of the parasites

Understand the mechanisms the parasite uses to harm or live with the host

Explain and interpret the relationship between the parasites and the hosts

Recognize the parasite species which are of major zoonotic importance.
