The module spans the first semester of year 3 general medicine and consists of basic and clinical study of the common diseases and disorders of components of the musculoskeletal system (bone and connective tissue). The module is clinically orientated and assumes a basic knowledge of the anatomy, physiology and pathology of the musculo-skeletal system.

The module consists of musculoskeletal conditions such as Trauma, Paediatric Orthopaedics and Elective Orthopaedics, Rheumatology and Physiotherapy, at the level of what a competent General Practitioner would be expected to know. The most important aspects of the clinical diagnosis, radiological interpretation and treatment of common muskulo-skeletal disorders will be emphasized

Welcome to Pediatrics and Child Health Department.

This module consists of 10 weeks full-time practical based in a pediatrics department with special attention to the introduction to clinical pediatrics. It is aimed in imparting skills in:

i. History taking in pediatric population

ii. Systemic physical examination for children

iii. Application of knowledge of basic sciences including anatomy, physiology, microbiology, and histopathology.

The professionalism and ethical conduct will be emphasized throughout your clinical placement.

The formative and summative assessments will be carried out to ensure that you have met all intended learning outcomes.

Unclassified medicine and surgery

The module consists mainly of practical clinical skills: taking the history of the disease, carrying out clinical examination, making a differential diagnosis, propose paraclinical investigations and a plan of treatment. Introductory lessons are provided, followed by use of the skillslab and bedside teaching.

Particular aspects of pediatrics and surgery are also taught in the introductory lessons.

Welcome to Pediatrics and Child Department.

The module consists of 12 weeks of full-time clerkship, clinical practical-based teachings, in a Department of Pediatrics and Child Health of a tertiary level accredited teaching Hospital of the University of Rwanda. The module will expose the student to further clinical pediatrics and will reinforce the clinical application and skills learned during the Junior Clerkship. The emphasis will place on refining the physical exam skills, assessing and management of an acutely ill child, neonates, and adolescents furthermore building a solid pediatric knowledge base. Professionalism and medical ethics will be emphasized during your clinical placement. 

An introduction to the community Pediatrics will be covered by teaching home-based care as part of the Integrated Management of Childhood Illness (IMCI) and management of collapsed children in form of Emergency Triage Assessment and Treatment + Course (ETAT). Formative and summative assessments will be carried out to ensure the intended learning outcomes are achieved.

1       Brief description of aims and content

 

On the completion of the bachelor degree with honours, the candidate will accomplish 10 weeks clerkship in hospital. The aim is to develop professional skills through a series of patient-orientated practice.

Having successfully completed the module, students should be able to demonstrate knowledge and understanding of:

  1. 1.      Practice of Clinical Pharmacy;

Cognitive/Intellectual skills/Application of Knowledge

Having successfully completed the module, students should be able to:

  1. 3.      Integrate theories and practical skills acquired previously to the application of the pharmaceutical care and pharmacy practice in day-to-day business;
    1. 4.      Manage and administer a pharmacy and pharmacy practice;
    2. 5.      Manage various systems for preparation, storage and dispensing of medicines;
    3. 6.      Offer patient counseling and education about the safe and effective use of medicines;
    4. 7.      Interpret the information provided on the prescription and satisfy the legal requirements for the prescription and prescription label.
    5. 8.      Assess the appropriateness of the prescribed therapy, including the choice of drug, the dose of the drug, the dose frequency and the duration of therapy with respect to the specific patient for which the therapy is prescribed.
    6. 9.      Resolve real or potential problems in the prescribed therapy.
    7. 10.  Know specific information about the medication to be dispensed, including: the drug name (brand and generic name or common chemical name and synonyms), therapeutic use and/or pharmaceutical use (specific to the prescription and in general), contraindications and precautions, common side effects, usual dosage, physicochemical properties (appearance, solubility, light sensitivity, incompatibilities, and stability under usual storage conditions of temperature and humidity) and how to take or use the product.
