Course image INTRODUCTION TO PRECISION MEDICINE
Department of Clinical Biology

Precision medicine (PM) combines genetic information,  patients’ environment and lifestyle to better identify and classify disease processes, and to provide custom-tailored therapeutic solutions

The aim of PM is to develop a tailored treatment for each individual and his or her unique condition to maximize potential treatment response and minimize adverse drug reactions.

Moreover, there are several factors that could slow or even prevent precision medicine from becoming successfully integrated into healthcare. Such as a lack basic knowledge in precision medicine in healthcare professional. Several studies showed clinicians in general feel underequipped to interpret genetic tests and direct-to consumer genomic tests.

Therefore , there is a need to increase the number of professionals with the necessary expertise to correctly interpret the genomics profiles of their patients, medical curriculum reform is required.
