AIMS OF THE MODULE

The module intended to introduce phlebotomy, professional behaviors including code of conduct, laboratory safety practices, waste handling, and disposal.  Phlebotomy is the process of collecting blood specimens. This unit also provides an orientation to different types of blood specimens that may be requested for specific laboratory services and effective communications with patients and clinicians.


INTENDED LEARNING OUTCOMES:
At the end of this module students should be able to:

  1. Collection methods for routine blood specimens including choice of correct anticoagulant and order of draw plus how to Handle routine blood specimens
  2.  Communicate effectively with patients, health care workers, clinicians, and laboratory teamwork
  3.  Laboratory ethics in good laboratory practices and use of standard operating procedures

4. Demonstrate the safety guidelines to insure the safety of the patients and the community.

5. Exhibits professional behavior’s

The clinical Chemistry 1 module introduces the students to the topic of chemical detection and measurement in clinical Laboratory. This module provides fundamental knowledge in analytical chemistry and Clinical chemistry, and a strong background in quantitative and qualitative analysis of biomedical specimens.

.The module aims to enable the students to understand the chemical effects of biochemical reactions of the human body. It provides the detailed description of structure and functions of biomolecules including proteins, carbohydrates, lipids, nucleic acids, hormones, vitamins and their derivatives. This module will also enable the students to discuss the metabolic disorders related to the metabolic processes.
