This module aims at furnishing learners with the knowledge and skills to care for patients with medical and surgical conditions of nervous, endocrine, musculoskeletal, integumentary, hematological and immunological Systems. It also focuses on pathophysiology, assessment, complementary investigations as well as medical and nursing management while caring for patients with the aforementioned conditions. The physiological and psychological needs of the patients are addressed through the concepts of patient centered care, teamwork and collaboration, evidence based practice, safety, quality improvement and informatics. The module will also offer a conceptual approach to alterations in the normal physiology of body structures. The focus is the integration of these concepts with nursing care for specific physiologic and psychosocial responses of patients with acute and chronic health alterations. The module further prepares students to collaborate effectively with an interdisciplinary team in assessing and managing patients and families, planning and evaluating a wide range of needs across life span.
