Trimester 3

The module of mental health nursing is aiming at equipping year 4 students with knowledge and skills to manage patients with psychiatric disorders. The module covers concepts used in mental health/ psychiatry, psychopathology of mental disorders, a holistic approach  by applying nursing process, creation of therapeutic envirnement in psychiatric unit in respecting ethics and legal standards. Also, this module is exploring personal and cultural perceptions, values and beliefs about mental health problems and the need of relevance of community mental health in Rwandan context. Lastly, the module is discussing a psychosocial rehabilitation approach for patients with severe and persistent mental disorders.
