This module aims at helping students to know and understand the different aspects of Rwandan Law dealing with property in general and land in particular. With this module, students will be able to identify the different types of property, the modes of their acquisition and loss as well as the rights of people over such property. The property law unit will help students to grab all these aspects with particular focus on land given its central socio-economic importance in Rwanda.
The purpose of this Module is to build onto the knowledge and skills that students acquired from General Principles of Criminal Law, by applying the principles of criminal liability to selected specific offences such as murder (intentionally causing the death of another person) and manslaughter (negligently causing the death of another person).
The aim of this module is to equip students with a knowledge and understanding of principles and rules of Rwandan Contract Law, to make students aware of the core elements of a contract and to provide a comprehensive foundation for the study of other legal modules where a knowledge of contract law is necessary or desirable. Amongst other things, this module will examine how contracts are created and made enforceable, the classification of contract terms, the rules regarding the legality and enforceability of contract terms as well as the manner in which contracts may be enforced and/or terminated.
This module is composed of three components namely Criminology, Sociology of Law and Psychology and Law. Each Component is taught by a separate lecturer in a complementary way since the components were put together to their common goals.
At the end of this module:
ü Students should be able to differentiate criminology from other criminal sciences. They should also know main doctrines of criminology, criminality factors and the contribution of victimology to the improvement of apprehension of criminal phenomena.
ü Students should be able to know the influence of the culture on law and vice-versa. They should as well be able to analyse economical, social, political and cultural problems that affect changes and evolution of law.
ü Students should be introduced on the intervention of psychology and law in the legal processes. They should as well be introduced to the broad area of legal psychology to give them an appreciation of the application of psychological principles and methods to the legal system.
ü Students will also learn how psychologists are employed in and interact with the legal system.
Mode of assessment
All along this module, students will be evaluated through assignments, quiz and a final exam
Thank you very much for your kind attention
Dear student,
The Law of Procedures Module sets out rules and standards that courts (in Criminal matters on one hand, and Civil, Commercial, Labour and administrative matters on the other hand) follow when adjudicating lawsuits in which litigants seek judicial settlement of their disputes.
